The European Chapter of Mayors for Peace, together with the organisations ICAN and IDN, have organised a joint Webinar on the current situation and the future of nuclear deterrence.

The purpose of this event is to debate whether it is possible to argue that the world has been spared from nuclear war since 1945 due to the influence of nuclear deterrence and also to discuss what the effects and results would be if nuclear deterrence fails.

Nuclear deterrence is becoming the centre of debate in the current international arena of nuclear disarmament. Furthermore, the importance of changing deterrence and security perceptions must be emphasised if nuclear disarmament is to be achieved. The issue of deterrence in the humanitarian sector and the role of cities in this area will be discussed.

This event will allow a better understanding of the importance of nuclear deterrence in the current international scenario and what are the consequences of this phenomenon.
