According to Jasminka Bajlo, Directress of Biograd na Moru’s International Relations Division participating to Conference, the event highlighted the momentum of the #NuclearBan agenda spearheaded by the adoption of the TPNW Treaty and its First Meeting of States Parties (held in 2022 – know more about our participation here).
The TPNW was highly praised by many ambassadors and the president of the 2022 1MSP Meeting, Ambassador Alexander Kmentt, was a featured speaker of the conference.
The current War of Ukraine remains a major topic related to international discussions on nuclear proliferation, along the nuclear weapons transfer regime. Major international powers criticized each other and failed to adopt major commitments, in spite of many countries stressing the implementation of the NPT’s Article 6 on nuclear disarmament.
« Each of the Parties to the Treaty undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament, and on a treaty on general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control »
