The French Chapter has just experienced a rich and stimulating week dedicated to the culture of peace.
In the framework of the New Africa-France Summit, Fatiha Alaudat, Deputy Delegate for Women’s Rights, Fight against Discrimination, Culture of Peace, International Solidarity, Host City and Vice President of the AFCDRP-Mayors for Peace represented Mayors for peace French Chapter at a Cités Unies France workshop: “What role for local governance in supporting African youth?” on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 in Montpellier with the presence of the Mayor of Dijon and President of Cités Unies France, François Rebsamen and Clare Hart, Vice President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and Vice President of the AFCDRP.
After a presentation of the Mayors for Peace network, Fatiha Alaudat recalled the convergences of the work of AFCDRP member communities with CUF on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the reception of refugees and cooperation issues, inviting the communities present to join in the common reflections and to participate in the Mayors for Peace Forum.
The following day, October 13, 2012 at the Montpellier City Hall, the Mayors for Peace Forum brought together the Mayor and President of the Metropolis of Montpellier, Michaël Delafosse, the Mayor of Grigny, President of the AFCDRP-Mayors for Peace, Philippe Rio and the Mayor of Ganollers, Chair of the European Chapter of Mayors for Peace, Josep Mayoral.
Mr. Mayoral participated also in the World Peace Congress on October 15 and 17, 2021 alongside the Mayors of Hiroshima (President of Mayors for Peace) and Nagasaki, Kazumi Matsui & Tomihisa Taue (https://www.ipb2021.barcelona/).
Elected officials, territorial agents, members of associations, international organizations, teachers and members of civil society were present for this first edition whose themes were peace, decentralized cooperation, security and the implementation of sustainable development goals. The city of Montpellier and Clare Hart, Vice President of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and Vice President of Mayors for Peace French Chapter, helped to host and co-organize the event.
This day was also punctuated by a moment of relaxation outside where Michaël Delafosse, Philippe Rio, Josep Mayoral and Fatiha Alaudat planted a tree for Peace offered by the city of Malakoff and brought for the occasion.
